Event Recap – What an event!

Last Wednesday (Nov 30th), IWIS held an interesting and stimulating event with the name of “Major Cultural Challenges Facing Female Minorities in Engineeting and Sciences”. The speaker, Mehrnoush (Noush) Sardashti was skillful, yet full of wit and energy who spoke about every day challenges women are faced with in the work environment and how to overcome them.
Mehrnoush had presented this topic at “The Society of Women Engineers 2011 Conference” about one month ago and was pleasantly surprised and excited when the audience jumped into the discussion and brought their own personal stories to the table.
Throughout the talk the audience was able to watch and listen to multiple interviews with successful immigrant women and see what they have been faced with in the workplace and how they have handled themselves. However, the event took a sharp turn as people started interacting with the speaker and brought in their own personal suggestions. The topics varied from family challenges that women often face to online resources available to them.
The event was nicely ended by people enjoying the provided snacks and networking and talking amongst themselves.
