Diversity Statement

SCWIST is an advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in schools, universities, businesses and Canadian society, and supports efforts to promote equality for all, especially within science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

We support and value diversity on our board of directors, internal committees, members and among our volunteers;  and we seek out diversity as well as experience when we look to hire contractors.  We welcome qualified people from a range of backgrounds, age groups, and levels of experience.  We comply with, and provide a positive influence, for laws and ethical guidelines regarding diversity, to ensure that diversity is the foundation of everything we do.

We see diversity within our organization as not just a nice thing to have, but as an asset that fosters better ideas, better programs and higher levels of impact and success.

We view diversity as a wide ranging set of intersectionalities which includes, but is not limited to: sex, gender, race, geography, ethnicity, culture, religion, income, age, sexual orientation, education, and disability (as based on Status of Women Canada, Gender-Based Analysis Plus).  And other diversity factors including, but not limited to: gender identity and expression, genetic characteristics, body size, marital status, family status, socioeconomic status, functional expertise, skill sets and political opinion.

We have a strong preference to collaborate with groups and organizations that share our values, and request that all of our preferred contractors and vendors complete Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) training.
