Job Description

L’École de technologie supérieur (ÉTS) is a rapidly evolving university in engineering and technology located in downtown Montreal. ÉTS offers undergraduate and graduate programs focused on applied engineering as well as state-of-the-art research infrastructure including quantum computers: one built by Anyon Systems available through Calcul Québec et one built by IBM available through PinQ2
ÉTS is also home to the Centech, a business incubator, offering support services for researchers wishing to commercialize their research.

L’École de Technologie Supérieure is one of the three largest engineering education and research establishments in Canada, is launching a call for applications to fill a Quebec Research Chair in the Quantum Computing sector in order to support the development of quantum engineering, identified as an important emerging area in its Strategic Research Plan.

Our Software and Information Technology Engineering Department

The Department of Software and Information Technology Engineering at ÉTS is recruiting professors specializing in quantum computing to develop new areas of research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

By joining this dynamic and growing department, the person hired will have the opportunity to leverage their expertise to contribute to the creation of a Quantum Research centre or institute and ensure its scientific direction as well as the development of new courses.

The person will be in charge of managing a team of researchers involved in different aspects of quantum computing.

MEIE research chair in quantum computing

This Quebec Research Chair is worth $200,000 per year for seven years and will fully finance research activity of the incumbent.
They may also benefit from the programs of the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) co-funded by the government of Quebec in order to deploy the infrastructure necessary to carry out their research program.

Regarding the position

We are looking for candidates known internationally in the field of quantum computing, particularly, but not exclusively in the following areas :

• Quantum Calculation
• Quantum Algorithms
• Quantum Machine Learning
• Tensor Networks

Requirement

• Must hold a Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in engineering in a related field, an engineering diploma is an asset.
• An industrial experience or experience conducting research in close collaboration with industry is an asset;
• Must demonstrate excellent research and teaching skills.
• Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and enter into a French training program with the support of ÉTS.

Compensation
