Opportunity
The Department of Software Engineering and Information Technology at ÉTS is recruiting a professor with a specialization in distributed systems. The research and teaching activities of the candidate will join those already in place and will allow the development of new research and teaching axes within the Department of Software and IT Engineering.
Job description
We are looking for candidates in the field of distributed systems. Specifically, we are interested in, but not limited to, the following areas:
• Security in distributed systems (cryptography, digital identity, security standards, trusted execution environment (TEE), etc)
• Decentralized systems and applications, distributed ledger and blockchain technologies, middleware, internet of things, edge and fog computing, cloud computing,
• Dependability, fault tolerance, HPC, parallel programming
• Distributed processing and storage paradigms (distributed stream processing, event-driven models, virtualization and containers, functions as a service, databases, block storage, etc.)
• Web systems, microservices architecture and concurrent programming languages
• Green IT
• DevOps (ops aspects: deployment, telemetry, production testing)
Working as part of a dynamic research team, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
• Teach at all three university levels in fields related to one or more of the above areas
• Supervise graduate and post-graduate students;
• Submit applications for financing and grants, primarily from Québec, Canadian or international government bodies, industrial organizations, municipalities and foundations;
• Conduct subsidized or contract-based research projects in partnership with industry and workplaces;
• Develop research programs;
• Publish scientific articles.
Requirements
• Hold a Doctorate (PhD) in Engineering (software, computer science, electrical or equivalent);
• Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or be eligible to join the OIQ and undertake the necessary steps to become a member before submitting an application for full professorship;
• Have experience in conducting research in collaboration with industry or solid experience in industrial R&D;
• Demonstrate excellent skills related to training highly-qualified personnel through research projects and teaching;
• Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and enter into a francization process with the support of ÉTS.

Summer or fall 2023.
