UNBC also recently placed among the top five per cent of higher education institutions worldwide by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and ranks among the top 50 research universities in Canada (Research InfoSource).

UNBC is a university both in and for the North. This mission has instilled a strong sense of ownership, purpose, and adventure among its students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the communities it serves. UNBC is also Canada’s Green University™, leading the way to a more sustainable future for all.

The Faculty of Environment is research-intensive and embraces interdisciplinarity with a range of undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level programs addressing sustainability, nature-based tourism, and community development, with focused opportunities at all 4 campuses. The ideal candidate will be interested in leading and supporting scholarship, interdisciplinary social, geographical, and physical environmental disciplines, and programming of immediate relevance to the most urgent issues facing northern British Columbia and the world.

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Provost, the Dean is a member of the senior leadership of the university. In addition to leading the faculty, the Dean contributes to strategic planning and decision making at the institutional level in collaboration with Deans of the other Academic Units. The Dean enhances research excellence and intensity. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished scholar preferably appointable as Full Professor at UNBC.
