Inspire the Next Generation of Women Scientists

Back to Posts

For young women starting to think about post secondary education and potential career options, having a mentor can be an enormous benefit.  ms infinity’s eMentoring program pairs up senior high school girls from all over British Columbia with women working in a field the students are interested in pursuing.  The program runs twice per year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring.  Each session, we get more and more applications from girls interested in participating and we are desperately trying to increase the number of available mentors to meet our needs.

Each session runs eight weeks and all communication between mentor and mentee is done via email.  At the beginning of every week, the program coordinator sends out a topic, questions, or even a website or video to kickstart a discussion.  Topics have included things like “Your Path – How did you get to where you are today?”, “Financing Your Education”, “Your Typical Day”, etc.  The time commitment is about one hour/week, depending on your relationship with your mentee (it might be a little more or a little less).

The only requirements of eMentoring volunteers are that they are passionate about what they do, are open to sharing about their lives/jobs/education, and that they have some experience in the working world (ie. completed your education and/or are working or have worked in your chosen field).  Mentors can be located anywhere in Canada.  We are particularly in need of women in medical science, veterinary science, and biochemistry, but we accept mentors from any of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields.

This is a great opportunity to give back and show girls what a successful woman in STEM looks like.
