Youth Leadership Award

My name is Ellen Tamblyn and I am currently working on a project for the SCWIST Youth Leadership Award, one of the SCWIST scholarships for designed specifically for youth.

About Ellen

I am 17 years old and I have always been interested in STEM due to the many family members and friends I have who work in STEM. My interest grew quite a bit last December when I got the privilege to work in a UBC lab at BC Children’s Hospital as part of my science co-op program.

About the Project

My project is an expansion pack for the Phylo Women in Science and Engineering Starter Deck. It will include new cards highlighting Canadian female scientists, engineers and mathematicians. I will be creating the portraits of all the women included in the expansion pack myself. My aim is to encourage young girls who play this game to pursue STEM careers.

Get Involved

Are you fascinated by science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)? Want to share that excitement with others? Our Youth Leadership Award is for female students in grades 10-12 who are eager to create a project that promotes STEM careers. Your project could involve creating YouTube videos on STEM topics, card games exploring different STEM careers, or engaging activities that make STEM fun. The successful candidate will receive a $500 honorarium to cover project supplies and an additional $500 upon completion of the project.
