Celebrating Canadian Women

SCWIST is honoured to announce that SCWIST President Dr. Melanie Ratnam has been featured in Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Canada’s Women’s History Month campaign.

What is Women’s History Month?

Women’s History Month is an annual celebration of the women and girls from our past and present who are contributing to a better, more inclusive Canada

Having this dedicated month provides the opportunity to recognize and honour the significant contributions and achievements of women in various fields, cultures, and communities. It is also a time to shed light on the often-overlooked history of women’s accomplishments and their enduring influence on society.

Dr. Melanie Ratnam’s outstanding work with SCWIST

Dr. Melanie Ratnam, our very own SCWIST President, embodies the essence of Women’s History Month. She is a trailblazer who champions gender equality and equity in STEM. In her role at SCWIST, Dr. Ratnam has been a driving force behind the organization’s mission to remove systemic barriers in STEM and advance gender equality. She recently represented SCWIST at the United Nations 67th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67), where her work included adding a recommendation to the Zero Draft of the CSW67 Agreeded Conclusions to build on the work of SCWIST’s Policy and Advocacy team and reflect insights from diverse communities across Canada, who each contribute unique and valuable perspectives to STEM.

Dr. Ratnam’s journey, rooted in her own immigrant experiences and her dedication to the collective voices of Canadians, serves as an inspiration to all who seek a brighter, more equitable future in STEM.

A heartfelt thank You to WAGE and congratulations to all women featured

SCWIST extends its heartfelt gratitude to WAGE Canada for their dedication to recognizing and celebrating the incredible contributions of those who refuse to accept the status quo and fight to improve the lives of all women in the country

We are honoured to be a part of this campaign, and we offer our sincere congratulations to all the women featured. Each one of them serves as a beacon of inspiration, embodying the spirit of Women’s History Month and reminding us that the path to gender equality is paved with remarkable achievements and determination.
