The value of one, the power of many

The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) thanks its compassionate volunteers who have dedicated their time and resources to deliver SCWIST programs.

SCWIST is an organization founded and run by volunteers. We are very grateful for the passion and commitment of each volunteer who has worked with us over the last 40 years.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2021 is “The Value of One, The Power of Many, and we believe this truly reflects the individual and collective efforts that we see at SCWIST.

SCWIST volunteers have helped us reach thousands of girls and women with science learning, workshops, networking, mentorship and countless other opportunities. And excitingly, volunteers are now making it possible to expand our programs outside of our founding centre of BC. Today, we have chapters in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta. This expansion will set the tone for the next few years as SCWIST becomes a national organization. We are proud that our volunteers are actively engaged in shaping the future of our organization.

Empower, include, inspire, connect, and sustain — these words define our values, which in turn drives our mission and vision to create an environment where women and girls in Canada can pursue their interest, education and careers in STEM without barriers.

Every day, we see our volunteers stepping up to help achieve this goal. Whether they are board members, committee members or general members, every volunteer is a blessing for us because without their selfless donations of time and energy, SCWIST would not be where it is today.

As National Volunteer Week draws to a close, I would like to give a HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers for all of their contributions. You are truly the heart and soul fo SCWIST. Thank you.

SCWIST Director for Leadership

P.S. Check out these throwback videos of some of our past volunteers discussing why exactly they decided to volunteer with SCWIST and the surprising ways they personally gained by giving back.
