The Senior Advisor, Academic Partnerships will support the development, strengthening, and expansion of Mitacs’s Academic Partnerships offering and will oversee the execution of key aspects of the partnerships offering to universities and colleges across the country. The position reports to the Director, Academic Partnerships and will be an important part of a national team dedicated to strengthening the mandate and reach of Mitacs across Canada.

Responsibilities:

Oversees Mitacs’s Academic Partner membership renewals
Manages the development of annual and interim reporting collateral for post-secondary institutions
Ensures preparation and support for meetings with post-secondary institutions
Manages Academic and National Partnerships front-facing communications with members
Ensures up-to-date tracking and collating of key partnerships data
Develops the infrastructure supporting Mitacs’s Academic Partnerships offering and ensures its ongoing coordination and maintenance
Prepares briefing documents for senior management that support interactions with academic stakeholders, including memoranda, presentations, environmental scans, letters, proposals, etc.
Organizes events, including panel discussions, round table meetings, etc. nationally in relation to academic partnerships strategy
Acts as a resource for Mitacs colleagues on its Academic Partnerships offering
Works closely with peers, including Business Development, Communications, Evaluation, Finance & Operations, National Partnerships and Programs to ensure complimentary engagement related to academic partnerships
Communicates and reports to academic partners through annual reports, newsletters, and consultations
Regularly assembles and maintains statistical reports on academic partner engagement; supports the design of evaluation processes and key performance indicators (KPI) tracking
Assists in the implementation of the Academic Partnerships offering’s annual operational plan by supporting the roll-out of strategies and plans that help us meet organizational targets and build positive brand recognition
Maintains a positive and collaborative approach to responsibilities, especially when working with other team members and/or external stakeholders

Skills and qualifications:

A graduate or bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of qualifications, is preferred
Minimum of 4-5 years of experience working in the area of academic and/or related stakeholder relations
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated experience with project management from development to implementation phase
Demonstrated experience in building stakeholder relationships and showcasing engagement benefits
Strong functional French in a professional environment
Strong analytical, research, database mining, problem solving, and project management skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple time sensitive projects simultaneously
Ability to navigate multiple stakeholder relations and bring parties together to reach a common goal
Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and customer service skills; tact and diplomacy
Awareness of current issues in higher education, in particular related to research and innovation
Ability to handle the pressure of change and evolving priorities
Entrepreneurial mindset, taking an agile approach to continuous improvement of partnership offerings
A motivated self-starter who is comfortable working with tight deadlines, autonomously and/or in a high-performing team setting
