STEM Streams Pilot Year
We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of STEM Streams’ pilot year!
STEM Streams by SCWIST is our innovative educational program designed to empower women and gender-diverse people with the knowledge and skills necessary to re-/enter and thrive in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
From its inception, STEM Streams has been dedicated to fostering accessibility, inclusivity and providing opportunities to underrepresented groups in STEM, including racialized, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, those living with disabilities and those with prolonged detachment from the labour force.
Participants’ STEM Streams journey was facilitated through a suite of online courses, personalized coaching, mentorship and tailored support services. Throughout the year, participants took eight pre-employment and career skills training courses specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of women in STEM. Topics covered included resume and cover letter writing, elevating your online presence, interview skills, career planning and navigating workplace culture.
During their time in STEM Streams, participants were also gifted a SCWIST membership and could access one-on-one career coaching as well as personalized financial support services, such as childcare or dependent support, internet access and emergency assistance.
