Supporting Indigenous STEM Circles

Breaking barriers for Indigenous youth.

SCWIST is creating a new wrap-around program that addresses existing gaps and barriers for Indigenous youth in grades 8-12 who wish to pursue a STEM education and career. Supported by the Flannagan Foundation and in consultation with Indigenous communities, SCWIST is running a pilot program with 5-10 Indigenous students, focusing on maths skills and following their career journey of a senior high school Indigenous youth towards an internship. To understand the needs of our participants, SCWIST will be conducting research to evaluate the program and to eventually build a more comprehensive program with more in-depth research in the upcoming years to advocate for STEM education opportunities for Indigenous youth.

The STEM Path Forward components include existing SCWIST programs, such as tailored e-mentoring for our participants, programs with our partners Grokolli (an online AI-driven math tutoring platform), Eagles of Tomorrow’s Math Yes We Can after school program (BC), and the Bison Regional Science Fair (MB).

If you are a company interested in hosting students as interns or an organization who wishes to partner with us, please contact [email protected].
