Job Description

Western University invites applications for a three-year Limited-Term faculty appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and experience, to participate primarily in the delivery of Computer Science undergraduate programs. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024. The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science. The salary will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. This position has an 80% Teaching and 20% Service workload distribution. Teaching duties will include up to 3.0 full course equivalents over a twelve-month period, while Service duties will include program coordination.

Applicants must possess an MSc in Computer Science or related discipline; a PhD in Computer Science or relevant industry experience would be considered an asset. Experience in teaching computer science at the post secondary level is required. Preference will be given to those who can teach courses in computer science that include software engineering, computer graphics, computer architecture or theory of computing. Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching is an asset, as shown through innovative course design, methods that engage students in learning, or evidence of understanding needs of diverse learners. Evidence of training in pedagogy at the university level is also an asset.

Computer Science (csd.uwo.ca) is a Department in Western’s Faculty of Science, with comprehensive programs in computer science at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Existing strengths in the Department include algorithms, artificial intelligence and machine learning, bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, distributed systems, software engineering and theoretical computer science. The Department jointly offers an undergraduate data science program, a professional Masters in Data Analytics and two collaborative Masters programs in Artificial Intelligence.

The university campus is in London Ontario, one of the fastest growing cities in Canada with a population of 422,000, located midway between Toronto and Detroit. With parks, river valleys, tree-lined streets, and bicycle paths, London is known as the “Forest City”. London has a reasonable cost-of-living, and boasts an international airport, galleries, theatre, music and sporting events (see https://www.ledc.com/why-london).
