SCWIST Quantum Leaps is a virtual career conference uniquely designed for girls from grades 8-12 interested in or curious to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This conference gives girls a glimpse into what women in STEM fields do in their careers.

During these events, girls can meet women professionals who have been successful in their STEM fields and meet other like-minded girls who have similar aspirations and interests. This event will help them know more about the STEM fields they are interested in and discover new STEM fields. Quantum Leaps also aims to aid students in the transition between high school and higher education.

This particular Quantum Leaps event will focus on women professionals working in careers related to engineering – particularly Structural engineering and Chemical engineering. They also have expertise in science communication and facilitating learning. Did they have a fixed plan for what they would like to do five years after high school? How do they ease into changing their career focus? Did they know that they wanted to pursue these careers when they were in university? Girls will get the opportunity to interact with these women to get the answers they need at the event.

INTERVENANTS

Marie Wood

Marie Wood, P.Eng is a professional engineer in the field of Structural Engineering. She works for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure as a Senior Asset Renewal Engineer, looking after the management of the bridge, culvert, and retaining wall structural inventory for MoTI’s Northern Region. Prior to this, Marie held positions as a bridge designer, bridge inspector, and construction coordinator. Marie graduated from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. Marie currently lives in Prince George, BC with her fiancee and their golden retriever.

Dalia Allouss

Dalia Allouss holds a Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry and Chemometrics from Hassan II University in Morocco and is currently a dedicated Ph.D. candidate pursuing her second doctorate in Chemical Engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke. With a passion for sustainable solutions, Dalia’s research focuses on the valorization of waste biomass into valuable products for environmental applications. In addition to her contributions in the academic sector, Dalia is enthusiastic about community involvement. She previously served as a volunteer for the eMonitoring program at SCWIST-MS Infinity Program. She is currently a member of the IYCN Public Outreach Team.
