SCWIST Final Report for WWEST eng-cite Project Emerging STEM Talent Toolkit - December 14, 2016

Back to Posts

eng-cite is the working name of the Goldcorp Professorship for Women in Engineering at UBC with the funding partnership of WWEST. The Professorship – established in 2014 – is a vital aspect of the UBC Faculty of Applied Science’s efforts to promote the engineering field to young women, to meet its goal to increase female enrollment in Engineering to 50% and to address a national shortage of engineers expected by 2020.

For the 2nd year, WWEST and eng-cite have partnered to fund new outreach programs by organizations throughout communities in British Columbia and the Yukon. These programs must promote women and girls pursuing and working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Despite the growing numbers of female undergraduates who are studying in engineering programs, females are still greatly underrepresented in STEM professions. Research and best practices have shown that diversity in STEM is beneficial to the development of creative and collaborative research and solutions through science.

The final report for the eng-cite project in 2015-2016 is prepared by SCWIST in December 2016. The report can be find by clicking here.
