The Quantum Leaps conference is a daylong event designed to inspire young women to consider pursuing careers in Science and Technology. The program, which was first initiated by the Society of Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST), has been successfully run since 1990 in communities across British Columbia and the Yukon. Each conference features brilliant role models; Women who currently work in key positions in science-based occupations lead hands on workshops, and give lectures on their lives and careers. University students studying these various fields serve on panels addressing important questions from their experiences in post secondary. As fellow students in District 41, we understand that with graduation approaching it is common to have uncertainties with so many possibilities presented. This is why we have decided to bring the Quantum Leaps conference to grades 11 and 12 Burnaby students in order to aid the transition between high school and a higher education.

The conference would be held at UBC on March 28th, 2015, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Poh Tan, Founder and CEO of Innoguidance Consulting, a strategic consulting firm that helps bring innovative ideas in stem cell science to the marketplace. She is also the co-founder and program developer for Newton’s Geniuses, an enriched science learning center for young children. Her passion is in science, science education and literacy.
