Job Description

The Department of Computer Science at Western University invites applications for two faculty positions in Computer Science.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date of the appointment is July 1, 2025, or as negotiated Successful applicants will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Probationary Tenure-track), Associate Professor (Probationary Tenure-track or Tenured), or Full Professor with Tenure depending on qualifications and experience.

The Department is considering applicants from any research area in Computer Science, with a particular interest in the areas of Data Science; AI and its applications in areas such as Healthcare, Neuroscience, Natural Language Processing, Security; Gaming and Graphics and Human-Computer Interaction.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of research in Computer Science appropriate to their career stage, in the form of publications in high-impact journals and conferences, awards or other scholarly achievement. Applicants must demonstrate a research plan that includes evidence of potential for successful external funding.

The successful candidate will also have a track record or superior potential for teaching in Computer Science, appropriate to their career stage. The candidate will have a teaching philosophy that demonstrates a strong plan for future teaching contributions to the Department.

The Department of Computer Science (www.csd.uwo.ca) has research strengths in algorithms, artificial intelligence and machine learning, bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, distributed systems, networking, software engineering and theoretical computer science. The Department has strong ties to industry and strongly encourages and supports participation in interdisciplinary research. We encourage extensive collaboration with various centers and institutes at Western such as Western Center for Brain and Mind and Lawson Health Research Institute. Recent investment through a partnership between Bell Canada and Western will see the creation of an advanced 5G research centre that will enable Western to become a “living lab” for shaping smart cities and communication systems. The Department is a contributor to a collaborative Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence (with Electrical and Computer Engineering), an undergraduate data science program and a professional Master’s program in data analytics (with Statistical and Actuarial Sciences). Research is supported by the SHARCNET high performance computing facilities.
