Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Education

The Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University (https://www.dal.ca/faculty/computerscience.html) invites applications for a Tenure- Stream Assistant Professor Position in Computer Science and Education. Qualified applicants will
- hold a PhD degree by the time that the appointment would begin;
- have a track-record of peer-reviewed publications in CS education-focused conferences and journals;
- evidence of research potential sufficient for obtaining a competitive research grant in either Computer Science Education or Education with contributions to the field of Computer Science; and
- be able to teach within the Computer Science undergraduate core of courses.
The following are optional assets to an outstanding application (relative to the stage of the applicant’s career in this area). Consider highlighting these items in your application package, if relevant: (1) Evidence of impact on learning and teaching practice, collaborations with teachers or researchers; (2) A research program with a lens on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in educational research and practice; (3) A research program on active learning, adapting to large classrooms, or teaching skills development; (4) A research program with a perspective on globalization (ICT4D) or internationalization; (5) A research program with focus on post-secondary computing education, or in computational thinking inside and outside of the K-12 school setting; (6) Application of data mining and learning analytics to instruction in computing disciplines; (7) History of relevant competitive funding in the last 5 years; and/or (8) Evidence of outstanding research impact or potential beyond baseline fundability.
Environment: The Faculty of Computer Science is a rapidly growing unit that includes 15 teaching-focused faculty striving for evidence-based, innovative design and delivery of Computer Science education. In addition to faculty, our team includes a full-time educational developer, full time staff support for interfacing with classroom frameworks, as well a manager for teaching assistants and markers. Our new and innovative curricula, coupled with more than 1800 students across our programs, offers the ideal environment for CS Education research to both enhance our academic excellence, and to establish leadership in CS Education.
Expectations: The applicant will be expected to establish an independent and externally funded research program, supervise graduate student research, and foster existing and new collaborations with government, industry, and with other members of Dalhousie’s research community. The successful applicant will build a research group with focus on CS pedagogy and to support the group’s research through both basic and applied research funding. Additionally, the successful applicants will contribute to the delivery of undergraduate courses within the curricula of the Bachelor of Computer Science or Applied Computer Science.
