Job Description
About the role
D-Wave is seeking a skilled Software Developer to join our Processor Software team, which plays a key role in creating and maintaining software that supports both the Processor Development (PD) and Hardware Engineering (HWE) teams. The PD team focuses on developing the quantum processor, and the HWE team designs and maintains the hardware necessary to operate and interface with the quantum processor. Together, these teams form the core of D-Wave’s advanced quantum computing technology.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software and engineering physics, physics, or a related field. A Software Developer on this team will collaborate with programmers, engineers, scientists, and physicists to design, implement and maintain software and infrastructure that interact with our quantum processors in both production and lab environments. The software this position develops will play a role in the calibration, operation, and testing of our quantum processor. The primary language used in the development is Common Lisp (SBCL). The work this position delivers directly impacts the core functionality of our quantum computing system. If you’re passionate about software development, quantum computing, and working at the intersection of hardware and software, with a collaborative mindset and a strong desire to learn and solve complex problems, we want to hear from you!
What you’ll do
- Contribute to the full software life-cycle, including development, testing, validation, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning
- Collaborate with team members, engineers and scientists to develop the software for quantum processor calibration, hardware interfaces, and operation infrastructure, including system testing and monitoring
- Enhance the reliability, usability, and maintainability of the software systems by improving test coverage, documentation, and code architecture
- Maintain, extend, and optimize custom-built software tools for supporting lab operations and ensure smooth interaction between the quantum hardware and software systems
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering physics, electrical/computer engineering, physics, or computer science with a strong aptitude for physics and hardware experience, with 2+ years relevant software experience
- Proficient in implementing hardware interfaces
- Experience with Git: branching, merging, issuing pull requests, etc.
- Experience working in a Linux environment
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams and tackle a variety of problems
- Demonstrated curiosity, flexibility, and passion for learning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Bonus
- Experience with Common Lisp or similar language, like Scheme, Clojure, or Scala
- Familiarity with quantum computing concepts and technologies, including quantum processors and their operational environments
- Experience developing and optimizing software in compiled languages and in multithreaded environments
- Emacs, Docker, Jenkins, SQL, MongoDB, InfluxDB, Grafana, Redis
