Job Description

Climate change is the defining challenge of our century. Responding to it will require rapid, deep, and sustainable decarbonization of the global energy system.

A PhD position in electrofuel process modelling is open in the APEX lab (https://carleton.ca/apex) at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This NSERC-funded position is part of a research program that aims to integrate electrofuel production processes (hydrogen, synthetic natural gas, and synthetic fuels) in large-scale models of the energy system. The ideal candidate will have experience in one, or more, of the following areas:

– Process engineering and process modelling
– Building large-scale optimization models of the energy system
– Conducting big data analysis and developing large databases

Applications are welcome from all areas of engineering, especially chemical engineering, and are encouraged from under-represented groups including, but not limited to: women; First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples; persons with disabilities; visible minorities; and persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

A background in ASPEN, Modelica, Modelon, or Python programming is considered a strong asset. The PhD start date is negotiable, ideally commencing in Fall 2021 or Winter/Spring 2022.
