How to Meet People and Get a Job

Back to Posts

“You can have the best résumé in the world but never get an interview.

You can write the best English but no employer replies.

Why not?

It’s all about meeting people. It’s all about who knows you.”

… Lorraine Graves

Come join the first IWIS event of 2013, March 19th as we unveil the secret of successful job hunting in Canada. We’ll practise the techniques that will lead you to a job. We are featuring guest speaker, Lorraine Graves, business owner and Canadian culture coach. With humour and practise, you will learn appropriate ways to make contacts who will help you get Canadian experience. Not only is a job possible, the hunt can be enjoyable.

Speaker: Lorraine Graves

Lorraine Graves has run her own Canadian business since 1986. In that time she has hired immigrants from a variety of countries. Lorraine has worked with a number of volunteer groups helping refugees and immigrants adapt to Canada. She has also worked as a broadcaster, journalist, and educational television producer. Currently, Lorraine is a writer, Canadian culture coach, and a volunteer ESL teacher. She has both coached immigrants on how to get a job and been an employer of immigrants. Just moving to Vancouver left her feeling like a fish out of water or like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz so she has compassion and great admiration for those move here from a different country.
