Jane O’Hara, VP Grants

Jane O’Hara hails from Ireland, where she completed all of her education: she got her Bachelor degree in Microbiology from Trinity College, Dublin, followed by a MSc in Molecular Medicine. Jane was awarded her PhD in Cancer Biology from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2011 before hot-footing it to Vancouver to check out science opportunities on offer in Canada. She has since begun a postdoctoral position at the University of British Columbia, where she investigates breast cancer using a mixture of molecular biology and proteomics. As well as being a scientist, Jane is passionate about science communication and as a member of the Communications Committee of SCWIST in the past year, she enjoyed blogging and tweeting about interesting stuff related to women and STEM. She can also be found salsa dancing, making travel plans, and trying anything outdoorsy in this city whose rainfall evokes fond memories of home.
