Christiana Cheng, Director, Communications

Back to Posts

Christiana began her involvement with SCWIST in April 2013 when she started as the communications and social media coordinator helping to promote SCWIST events and manage communications.  Her role gradually increased in responsibility and in November 2013 she happily took on the position as the Director of Communications when it became vacant.  Since her appointment, the communication team consistently releases a monthly newsletter and markets all SCWIST events in a timely and thoroughly manner.  She has also helped in strengthening relationships with other stakeholders in the STEM-sector such as BCIT alumni association and Vancouver Enterprise Forum.  She is working closely with both the strategic development committee and the mentorship program committee to further increase SCWIST’s visibility in order to reach and serve a wider audience.  Christiana has a PhD in molecular biology and is currently a Research Associate at the Rick Hansen Institute where she applies evidence-based research to improve the health care delivery for patients with spinal cord injuries.  Throughout the years, she has always been involved with the community, helping organizations like hospitals and nursing homes, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and Vancouver Rape Relief.  She feels that volunteering is a way to empower and connect with others.
